House Hunters International follows homebuyers around the globe in their search for new places to call home, but just because it is a reality TV program doesn’t mean it always looks real.
Behind-the-scenes efforts appear to be underway to give the show more authenticity.
Locations
Home & Garden Television’s House Hunters International is an acclaimed homebuying show that follows homebuyers as they search for their dream properties abroad, including Australia, Mexico, and Spain. While moving abroad can be daunting for homebuyers, this program helps make the transition easier for viewers.
Entertainment aside, this show serves as an effective advertisement for various locations featured. Viewers get an insider view into places they may never have access to visiting in person – making the show immensely beneficial for local real estate and tourism industries.
Homebuyers featured on the show tend to be older couples searching for an ideal place for them to retire or raise their families, which makes for an easier and more predictable show; however, these couples often appear disapproving or plain rude!
Television Show
House Hunters International, produced by Pie Town Productions and featuring real estate agents who assist homebuyers, is a smash hit among viewers of House Hunters on HGTV. It follows individuals as they search for properties overseas.
To get on the show, applicants must submit an application to Pie Town Productions. After reviewing each applicant, Pie Town Productions will evaluate them to see if they fit with its program and look for those with unique stories that set them apart from typical househunters; applicants also need plenty of energy, since house hunting episodes usually last several hours at a time.
HGTV is seeking applicants that will add plenty of emotion to the screen. They look for people who can emote with their voices, know a great deal about buying process, are well-versed with local area. Once selected, applicants are taken on tours of various properties before being interviewed before producers decide which property the homebuyers will select as their new residence.
House hunters featured on HGTV may not necessarily be professional real estate agents; this is because HGTV emphasizes the more personal elements of their search process. Buyers still receive compensation for their time on camera as well as for any purchases made via the show – in an article for Slate Elizabeth Newcamp mentioned how she and her husband received $1,500 to appear in an episode after having purchased their house!
House Hunters International will feature homes in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida on upcoming episodes. These luxurious properties can be found near the ocean and feature luxurious amenities that homeowners love. Show host Casey Joiner serves as a real estate agent in this area and will lead potential homebuyers through these beautiful properties.
If you’re considering purchasing a home in Santa Rosa Beach, be sure to watch this season of House Hunters. Not only can you experience its laid-back lifestyle firsthand, but also admire its stunning architecture and luxurious amenities.
Producers
House Hunters International on HGTV follows people searching for homes in exotic locales. Buyers are assisted by local real estate agents, and each episode features three homes to select. Each follow-up episode also provides buyers with updates months or even years later – this show has proven incredibly popular and even won multiple awards!
House Hunters International features buyers who can afford to move abroad and are typically middle-aged or older couples looking for vacation or retirement homes in other countries. Although often house hunting for vacation or retirement homes abroad, some buyers have other motivations: such as one couple that wanted to move to Puerto Vallarta specifically so they could experience its culture and cuisine; other homeowners seek close proximity to water while others want an escape from cold winters.
HGTV’s production team travels all around the globe in order to find new homes in exotic locales for House Hunters International, among other shows. Their production crew searches these exotic spots in search of potential episodes while working closely with local crews in scouting potential episodes and using contacts they have to find the ideal properties and ensure buyers enjoy an enriching experience.
Although most reality shows claim to be “real”, that doesn’t rule out some degree of staging on camera. Elizabeth Newcamp appeared in two episodes of HGTV’s House Hunters International and wrote an article for Slate discussing her time filming the show. She discussed how producers encouraged her and her husband to show tension on camera and that she already owned both houses that they chose on House Hunters International before appearing.
Samantha Stubin, producer on House Hunters International, spoke with Yahoo! Lifestyle about how she scouts for locations for the show. Working closely with local crews gives her access to places most of us could only dream about visiting in real life.
Victoria Romeo, a local real estate agent, will be featured in an upcoming episode of House Hunters International. Nominated by one of her clients and selected after various auditions, Victoria was thrilled that she would be featured and found the entire experience fun and enjoyable – hoping that future episodes may call upon her once more!
Cast
House Hunters on HGTV is known for showcasing real people looking for their dream homes. Each episode follows a couple or family as they tour three houses before selecting one as the chosen purchase option. After moving in, follow-up segments show them adapting to their new surroundings after several weeks or months have passed.
Although this show purports to be reality-based, its production team stages much of it to appear more genuine – in fact, one former participant wrote for Slate that some houses they visited weren’t actually for sale during filming!
As for the participants, when selected to appear on the show they are usually far into their home-buying process – often having already closed on one at the time an episode is shot. This creates the appearance of difficulty selecting among houses shown them when in reality it’s simply finding what fits best with them and choosing one they feel most at ease with.
House Hunters International often features American expats looking to relocate for work or family reasons abroad, though younger couples have also been featured. According to a HuffPost article, HGTV became tired of featuring older couples on its show and began recruiting younger ones instead.
House Hunters International features Andromeda Dunker as the main narrator since its premiere in 2009. She excels at making house hunters sound believable and natural; however, occasionally other narrators have been used due to loyal viewers of its predecessor noticing a difference between voices of both series.
House Hunters International producers don’t shy away from breaking some rules to make their show more entertaining, such as sending homebuyers on multiple tours even though only two properties were actually for sale at the time. Airbnbs or friends’ properties could even be included among them!
